Jesus Calms the Wind and Waves
Evening was softly falling across the Sea of Galilee. Jesus was tired after a long day of teaching kindness and healing those who were sick. "Let us sail over to the other side," He told His friends. They stepped aboard a wooden fishing boat and set sail into the twilight.
As the boat rocked gently upon the open water, Jesus rested His head on a cushion in the stern and drifted into peaceful sleep. Suddenly, black clouds rolled in, and fierce winds whistled across the lake. Great waves leaped over the sides, splashing water into the boat. The disciples gripped the sails in terror.
Rushing to the back of the boat, they shook Jesus awake: "Teacher, do You not care if we drown?" Jesus opened His eyes with calm reassurance. He stood up in the rocking boat, looked out into the howling storm, and spoke gently yet with authority: "Quiet! Be still!"
Instantly, the raging wind stopped in its tracks. The roaring waves settled into glass-like stillness, reflecting the quiet evening stars. The disciples looked at one another with quiet wonder, realizing that no storm is ever greater than God’s peace.
What this story teaches us:
No matter what worries or fears try to shake your heart at bedtime, Jesus is always beside you, whispering peace into your soul.
